5 Reasons Child Play Needs To Be Preserved

With an increase in technology and the need to do more, kids are spending less and less time engaging in actual play time. There is a major problem with this having an interference in your child's development. Here are five reasons their play time needs to be preserved:
- Learn Real Life Skills: Play time allows your child to develop real life skills and it's pretty much the only time of the day that this is happening. Not only is your child playing freely, which allows them to explore more of the world around them, but they are also using social skills and full body skills to problem solve. All of this is key to developing real life skills that they will use in all situations whether social or in the workplace.
- Keeps Them Engaged: Children are most engaged when they are using whole body experiences to learn and this is what's happening when they are playing. Even if play time is taking an opportunity to learn something, such as science or math hands on, it keeps the child interested and learning.
- It's Hard Work: Children are constantly learning in new environments and play time provides this, especially when it's a new environment with new children. This allows your child to apply more real life skills and use them in these new environments to grow and learn from it. Many people thing play time is too easy and they learn more in classroom environments. However, this is actually not the case.
- It's Meaningful: Since your child is engaging in play time doing what they are happy to do, the learning experience becomes more meaningful to them. This means that they are able to better retain the information that they have gained from it.
- Truly Reflects Their Skills: Finally, when your child is being observed whether by yourself or another adult, it's easier to understand your child's unique skills and what they may need work on. When you use this information to adjust their learning in your home or inside of a classroom environment, it makes their next play time situation more engaging because they will use this information to possibly explore more skills that they have recently learned.
When you know some of the five reasons play time needs to be preserved, you can see why it's so important when choosing a daycare or education program for your child. You want to be sure that they have ample time to play and that it is being preserved by the teachers to help develop and push those skills further.
